Nearly 50% of Your Cell Phone Calls Will Be Spam in 2019
If you're anything like me, you rarely pick up your cell when it shows an unknown number. The exception to this rule, in my book anyway, is when it comes from at 845 area code/looks like a number I may have called or know. Now, after hearing this, i'm definitely not picking up my phone.
A recent FCC report states that nearly half of calls made to cell phones in 2019 will be spam - gross!
The report itself is pretty lengthy, but if you're looking to kill some time, have at it.
If you want the abridged version, check this report out from CNN.
I've got the moral of the story for you right here though...
There was a 57% increase from 2017 to 2018 with regard to robocalls, and although approaches like call tracing and authorization methods have been used, it's still tricky to combat.
According to the CNN article:
Ninety percent of those calls will have familiar caller IDs, but there isn't an effective way of identifying a call as spam before answering.
But despite laws prohibiting certain types of robocalls, including those made to individuals on the national Do Not Call Registry and those meant to defraud, such calls have risen over the years.
So, with all of that in mind, to pick up or not pick up, I guess that is still the question.
Do you ever report illegal robocalls?
