New Marist College Residence Hall Dedicated To Local Philanthropist
A new residence hall on campus at Marist College in Poughkeepsie was dedicated to a Hudson Valley philanthropist Friday. John and Nancy O'Shea Hall will house nearly 300 students in a state of the art facility on the north end of campus. This is the third of four new buildings to be dedicated this year to go along with Tom and Mary Ward Hall and Lavelle Hall dedicated to Patrick Lavelle who graduated in the class of 1973.
According to the Marist College website, John O'Shea first stepped on campus as a local boy when his father was doing work for the original Marist Brothers. O'Shea is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has had a long career with Marshal and Sterling Insurance. He worked his way up from account executive to chairman of the board, a position he still holds. He sat on the college's board of trustees for almost 25 years and established a scholarship committed to helping Hudson Valley students.
Ultimately the new residence halls will allow the college to not only compete with other top-flight schools for students but will allow Marist to host conferences and other large-scale events that bring people from other areas to the Hudson Valley.
