Great news for outdoor enthusiasts: the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation has announced plans for a new state park.

The plan, which was announced on June 2nd, 2025, will provide 90 acres of space for "passive recreation", a move that the department says is part of their "ongoing efforts to increase park access for all New Yorkers".

New York State Park Statistics

Across the state, more than 335,000 acres of state park land is visited by tens of millions of people each year. Now, 90 more acres will be added with the latest acquisition in upstate New York.

Future New York State Park Land in Central New York

The land, which was most recently known as the site of the Boy Scout's Camp Barton, will now be transformed into an area for public hiking, bird watching, and other low-stress activities. There's also a great view of the water:

New State Park Coming to Trumansburg, NY

The future park is on the shores of Cayuga Lake in Trumansburg, NY, and comes complete with boat docks, bathrooms, and a trail leading to the scenic Frontenac Falls. It will be run through a partnership created by local governments under a 10-year agreement that also contains a renewal option.
