Sojourner Truth State Park, Kingston

Less than a year ago, in July of 2025, Governor Hochul announced the groundbreaking for what was referenced as 'the buildout of major elements of Sojourner Truth State Park in Ulster County, including a new swimming facility and bathhouse pavilion.'

The facility, of course named after Sojourner Truth, the 19th century African American abolitionist and suffragist who was born in Ulster County. The park, which spans parts of the City of Kingston and the Town of Ulster, located at 100 Sojourner Truth Way, Kingston, NY 12401, is a massive 500 acres in size.

A lack of access to safe and convenient swimming opportunities has denied far too many New Yorkers the chance to get off line and get outside by engaging with the water and learning foundational water safety skills. The buildout at Sojourner Truth State Park is a step in the right direction to effect real change for Hudson Valley communities.

Governor Hochul assured the community then (July 2025) that 'at this time next year' residents and visitors will be able to beat the heat at this new state-park, and shared that there will be even 'more exciting park amenities' unveiled into 2027.
