I knew it was coming but I still wasn't prepared. I already miss the J.C. Penney at the Poughkeepsie Galleria.

It wasn't a secret that the J.C. Penney location in the Poughkeepsie Galleria was closing it's doors. Most of us here in the Hudson Valley knew that it was on borrowed time for quite a while.

Unfortunately, stores all across the state have been shutting their doors left and right. It seems like large stores and even mom and pop shops aren't safe. The COVID-19 pandemic seems to be the final nail in the coffin for stores that may have already been struggling. J.C. Penney and Sears both filed for bankruptcy. It was announced in June that the the J.C Penney location in Poughkeepsie would be one of many stores closing which shocked many Hudson Valley residents as the store seemed to always be busy.

The store was originally planned to close at the end of summer but the liquidation process seemed to be halted because of the pandemic. The store remained open up until a short time ago.

For a minute there it almost seemed like it wasn't going anywhere but all good things must come to an end. This is just a sad punch in the gut to my inner child. I'm not sure about you but I have so many fond memories of the store from circling what I wanted for Christmas in the J.C. Penney  catalogue (remember those?) to my mother taking me there to buy school clothes during the summer.

The open stores are currently in Danbury and in Middletown.

Will you miss J.C. Penney in Poughkeepsie?
