It’s been almost two years since our worlds changed, practically overnight. I’ll never forget March 13, 2020, when our bosses called a meeting telling us that our offices would be closing and the only people allowed in the building would be the on-air staff. Everyone else would be working from home. And suddenly we were masking, almost bathing in hand sanitizers, and wiping everything down with Clorox Wipes.

We have come a long way since then. There are vaccines, medicines, and more information about this dreaded virus than we knew when it all started. But this latest variant is spreading like wildfire, and once again, we are seeing businesses close temporarily, shows being canceled and postponed, and mask mandates are back in full force. All because employees are sick with Covid, or they just want to be extra careful.

Both The Falcon in Marlboro and The Colony in Woodstock have decided to put things on hold, at least for a few days. The Falcon put a message on their Facebook page that all shows today through Jan. 9 are canceled. That includes Sara Perotta tonight, Fred Thomas Jan. 7, Gabriel Butterfield on Jan. 8, and Kenny Werner on Jan. 9. The post explained that they had a rising rate of Covid infection among their employees.

The Colony in Woodstock has also postponed shows because of Covid. The Bowie Bash scheduled for Jan. 8 will now be on Saturday, March 19. Wild Mountain Rose, A Tribute to Dolly Parton has been postponed to March 4, the Rick Danko Birthday Celebration with Professor Louie and the Crowmatix will be a belated celebration, and the event’s new date is February 17. Check the website for more details.

Even though it’s disappointing when something you’re looking forward to is canceled or postponed, given the circumstances, it’s probably for the best. Covid is no laughing matter. Be careful and be safe.
