Ulster County Takes Another Step in Plastic Reduction
New York State has made moves to restrict single-use plastic bags at businesses across the state. The timeline for the ban going to affect depends on the county, Ulster County already put this into place, Dutchess County will enact it January 1, 2020 and the rest of the state will make it happen on March 1, 2020. Keep in mind that there are towns that have already enacted their own bans and are not waiting for New York State.
Ulster County has taken the plastic restrictions one step further. This week the Ulster County legislature passed a bill that will continue to restrict use of plastic items in the county. The bill makes it so plastic items cannot automatically be included in your take-out food order. If you want a plastic utensil, fork, knife, spoon, drink stirrer, etc. You will need to ask for it. Establishments will no longer be allowed to just include those items, but will be required to make them on a 'as asked for basis.'
Would you be upset if your delivery or to-go order did not have plastic utensils in it?
