Watch Wild Eagles in the Hudson Valley at New Viewing Area

Bird enthusiasts have a new place to watch eagles in their natural habitat.

This month the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the opening of a newly renovated viewing blind. Visitors will be able to watch nesting eagles in their natural habitat while keeping the animals undisturbed.

The viewing blind reopened on November 2 after receiving $40,000 in repairs thanks to the Environmental Protection Fund. Visitors can now check out the eagles who reside in the Mongaup Valley Wildlife Management Area which consists of more than 11,000 acres of land.

The Dr. Ted Kerpez Memorial Eagle Viewing Blind is located in the town of Forestburgh and was formally dedicated to Dr. Kerpez who spent nearly three decades working for the DEC.

DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said the dedication is fitting because of Kerpez's passion for his work

Dr. Ted Kerpez was a true public servant and spent his career working with the public and our partners to protect native wildlife species and preserve natural habitats. The dedication of this viewing blind in his honor is extremely fitting as Dr. Kerpez also dedicated much of his time to getting people connected to the great outdoors.

The Dr. Ted Kerpez Memorial Eagle Viewing Blind is now officially open to visitors.
