Why Cuomo Wants to Ban the Media From Sharing Mugshots
You're innocent until proven guilty but there's a lot of judgement that comes from just being arrested. That picture of you after being booked could be on the internet forever. Is Cuomo looking to change all of that?
The internet is a graveyard for terrible mugshots. We all remember Nick Nolte's crazy one. When you're arrested, Law enforcement agencies share those pictures and even your charges with the media. Is that fair? By sharing that information the public can assume guilt before you've even been found guilty.
Many people's reputations struggle to recover after these photos are displayed. It has been reported that will post your arrest information and then charge you to take it down.
According to the Times Union, Governor Cuomo plans to fight Freedom of Information Law and the sharing of this information and even goes as far as to call it an invasion privacy.
