This weekend a lot of people are going to be celebrating Cinco De Mayo, and that is great. You might be including some Mexican beer or foods (or Margaritas) in your celebration. The reason that May the 5th is celebrated is because it marks Mexico's unlikely defeat of the French military at the Battle of Puebla in 5/5/1862.

Coming up on the weekend after Mother's Day (May 14th btw) at Germania in Poughkeepsie is the big Maifest Celebration. Think of this as Oktoberfest in May, that will give you an idea of how big this is. The good times will take place:

  • Friday, May 19, 5–10PM
  • Saturday, May 20, 12–9PM
  • Sunday, May 21, 12–6PM

The Germania Festival Grounds are located at 51 DeGarmo Road in Poughkeepsie. Admission to the grounds is $5 per person, per session. Those who are 15 and under will be admitted for free and the activities will take place rain or shine.

In addition to copious amounts of beer for purchase, there will also be German foods available to buy, German vendors, live music, dancing and children's activities.
