An early morning shooting on February 7th on South White Street injured one person. Now, less than two weeks later, a suspect has been arrested and charged.

Woman Shot on South White Street in Poughkeepsie

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department shared the news of an incident that took place during the early hours of Saturday, February 7th, indicating that at approximately 2:10am, City 911 received a call that reported 'a fight in the area of 13 South White Street.'

A second call came in regarding the same location, this time reporting that 'a person had been shot.' When officers arrived on scene, they located a 44-year-old victim, female, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. The woman was transported to a local hospital in 'critical but stable condition.' The victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Arrest Made in Poughkeepsie Shooting

On Friday, February 20th, The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department announced an arrest in connection with the February 7th South White Street shooting. Following an investigation under the direction of City of Poughkeepsie Detectives, 58-year-old Alphonso Higgs Jr was arrested and subsequently charged with the Class D Felony of Assault in the Second Degree and the Class A Misdemeanor of Reckless Endangerment.

The firearm used in the incident has been recovered, according to City of Poughkeepsie Police.

Higgs has been arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail with bail set at $10,000 cash, $15,000 bond, or $60,000 partially secured bond.
