Angelika Graswald Gets Magazine and Netflix Spotlight
Back in 2015 the Hudson Valley was gaining national attention due to a suspicious death that took place on the Hudson River.
On April 19, 2015 Vincent Viafore and Angelika Graswald went kayaking on the Hudson River from Plum Point to Bannerman's Island. On their way back the couple, from Hyde Park, experienced rough weather. That's when Viafore's kayak capsized.
According to the Orange County District Attorney, prior to their trip Graswald took out the plug in Viafore’s kayak, which caused it to fill with water. Viafore's body was found several days later.
Graswald spent time behind bars at the Orange County Correctional Facility and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. She was released in December of 2017.
Graswald can be seen in this months issue of Elle Magazine as they spotlight her version of the story. When asked about what happened that day in 2015 Graswald tells the magazine "I don’t think back. I look forward.... I don’t regret what happened. I don’t think ‘What if’ anymore.”
During the profile, which is titled "Slippery When Wet," the interviewer ask Graswald if there is anything that she's kept to herself about the night of Vincent Viafore's death and she responded:
"Bottom line, I’m the only living person who’s still here, and I’m the only one who knows. So it’s between me and God. We’ll just leave it at that. I don’t care what anybody else thinks.”
Graswald, who is originally from Latvia, is currently working with animals and children in Orange County.
