So yet another chain store from my youth has gone. The store I remember going to to buy clothes that were different and easy to wear. I think I even bought a few items specifically to wear on job interviews as a fresh out of high school 18-year-old.

The clothing store that I am talking about is The Limited. Yes, they left the Crystal Run Galleria and the Poughkeepsie Galleria years ago, but as of this last weekend, all the stores are gone.

According to shopsleuth.com, these nine stores were the only ones that remained in New York through 2016.

  • Albany, NY Crossgates Mall
  • Amherst, NY Boulevard Mall
  • Cheektowaga, NY Walden Galleria
  • Garden City, NY Roosevelt Field
  • Henrietta, NY The Marketplace Mall
  • Nanuet, NY The Shops at Nanuet
  • Staten Island, NY Staten Island Mall
  • Syracuse, NY Destiny USA
  • Yonkers, NY Westchester's Ridge Hill

Only 250 stores total were even still trying to operate through the holiday season. During The Limited's heyday, there were over 750 stores selling clothing to women, men and children (The Limited Too).

As of Jan. 7, 2017 there was a post on The Limited's website that said all stores had been closed, but that the website was still operational and available for customers to shop at.

Is there a store that has closed here in the Hudson Valley that you wish you could bring back? If so, what store is it?
