If plan on traveling on the New York State Thruway this weekend, you may see significant traffic jams as three lanes of travel will be closed in the Hudson Valley.

The Thruway Authority announced construction for the new Tappan Zee Bridge which will require a triple lane closure on the northbound Tappan Zee Bridge beginning Friday night.

Only one northbound lane will remain open to traffic.

Lane closures will start Friday April 29 at 9 p.m. and continue until Saturday April 30 at 2 p.m. Lanes will again be closed Saturday starting at 9 p.m. and remained closed until Sunday May 1 at 2 p.m.

Officials say all three lanes in the southbound direction will remain open on the Tappan Zee Bridge during the entire weekend.

Motorists traveling north on or near the Tappan Zee bridge should plan for severe delays during the closure. Seeking alternate routes is advised.

Signs warning about the closure have been spotted on Route 9 in Dutchess County. The sign notes when traffic is expected to be delayed the most.
