In addition to playing great music, giving away amazing prizes, and entertaining you throughout your work days and weekends, we take on the important responsibility of getting to the bottom of the important questions of the Hudson Valley.

Last week, a few of us here at the station got into a bit of a debate, heated at times, about something important and controversial: sandwiches.

Did He Say 'Order A Grinder?'

It all started when I heard our new to the Hudson Valley from New England morning show friends discussing ordering 'grinders' at a local sandwich shop, and remembering the days when the roles were reversed and I was an out-of-towner living in New England. Even though it's only a two hour car ride away, regional vocabulary and slang are real!

The guys discussed ordering grinders from the sandwich shop here and I had to laugh, because i'm sure many people thought to themselves, grinders?

So, with that in mind, I started asking around the radio station about people's sandwich ordering habits, and honestly I received a ton of different responses. The conversation even got a little heated at times, as we really got into the meat (see what we did there) of things when it comes to ordering sandwiches - bread types, do the contents matter, which types of bread are for which 'meal times,' how you order, hot vs. cold when it comes to sandwich titles, and so on.

We Asked About Your Deli Sandwich Orders...

After defending my stance on what the 'right' way to order a sandwich at the deli is, it was time to poll the good people of the Hudson Valley.

I disagree, but the Hudson Valley has spoken and it seems like sub or submarine is the popular preference when it comes to ordering 'a sandwich on long bread' at the deli, with hero coming in second. In case you've been on the edge of your seat awaiting my thoughts, turkey and swiss 'on a roll' means i'm getting my deli sandwich on a circular hard roll, hero is used to order something hot like a chicken parm, and wedge is used when you order a 2-3 foot long sandwich and slice into individual servings, like to cater a party or feed a group - just saying.

Side note - I did appreciate whoever responded with 'sangwich' - you made me think of my very Italian grandma offering me lunch.

Is there a right and wrong way to order a deli sandwich? Does the bread type really matter, does ordering a panini, bagel, hard roll, wrap, or even on regular old bread disqualify your sandwich from being a true deli sandwich?
