New York Football Stadium to be Renamed

A football stadium in New York State is getting a new name.

USA Today reports that the stadium will the Buffalo Bills play will be getting a new name. The stadium, called New Era Field, will no longer hold that name. The change comes as the Buffalo Bills and New Era Cap Company will be dissolving their agreement.

New Era had been struggling financially, according to USA Today. The company furloughed and then laid off, 70 percent of the workforce. 117 people lost their jobs. After this, New Era asked the Buffalo Bills to be released from the naming rights and sponsorship deal. Currently, the details of the split are being discussed. It's unclear if other companies are being considered for naming rights.

Before New Era Field, the stadium was called Rich Stadium and then Ralph Wilson Stadium. USA Today reports that it was changed from Ralph Wilson Stadium to New Era Field when Terry and Kim Pegula purchased the Buffalo Bills in 2016. They had entered into a seven-year deal with New Era Cap Company for roughly $4 million per year. It is unknown whether the Bills have been negotiating with other companies while the details of the New Era breakup were being worked out.
