NY Cop Who Inspired 'The French Connection' Passed Away

The inspiration behind the classic film that brought us the famous line, "You ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?"

The French Connection starring Gene Hackman is one of my favorite movies. I was shocked to find out his name wasn't 'Popeye' Doyle but it's sad to hear of the former New York detective's passing.

According to the New York Post, Sonny Grosso's work with the NYPD inspired one of the greatest detective films ever made and he also consulted on the set of The Godfather. According to the Post, Grosso died in Manhattan at the age of 89.

Throughout his success in Hollywood, Grosso remained true to his New York roots and he will be missed.
