A Hudson Valley woman working as a cashier at Price Chopper is accused of giving away free merchandise. She was later found to be in possession of needles and drugs.

Saugerties Police responded to Price Chopper for a report that an employee was giving away merchandise to customers. Price Chopper Loss Prevention reported that one of their cashiers, 29-year-old Jennifer Litts, of Saugerties was giving away merchandise to customers without charging them.

Police say Litts acted as though she was scanning items at the register and then bagged the merchandise, allowing the customers to leave without paying for the items.

Litts was arrested at the Saugerties Price Chopper located on Ulster Avenue and transported to the police headquarters for processing.

During processing Litts was allegedly in possession of two hypodermic syringes and an undisclosed amount of heroin

Litts was charged with petit larceny, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.

Litts was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Village of Saugerties Justice Court to answer her criminal charges.

This marks another of a number of strange stories coming out of Saugerties. Monday a teenager who allegedly cursed at umpires is accused of later mooning security.
