Selfie: Word of the Year?
It's official: "selfie" is the word of the year.
As someone who tries to appreciate the English language and also as someone loves to get irrationally upset about things, I should probably be at least mildly irritated that such a disposable and goofy-sounding word was selected.
Oddly, I'm not.
In fact, I'm uncomfortable with how comfortable I am with this decision. In fact, I would declare that for its purposes, "selfie" is about as perfect as it gets.
Think about it: it's a stupid, self-involved, generally cutesy activity. "Selfie" has the world "self" in it and ends with a dumb cutesy "ie." It's quick, it's easy, and it's not going anywhere.
And, after all, it's better than the word of the year being "twerk."
