Video Captures Hudson Valley Driver Breaking Law, Not Moving Over

Scary video captures a distracted driver not moving over for first responders and smashing into a vehicle in the Hudson Valley.

On Thursday, New York State Department of Transportation shared a video on their Facebook of a recent accident from I-684 in the Hudson Valley.

A New York State Police trooper was on the scene of a one-car crash that was partially blocking the right lane on I-684. A New York State DOT HELP truck was stopped in the lane, lights flashing, to assist with traffic control and protect the police officer and motorist, officials say.

The video shows most cars moved over to the left or center lanes of the highway, but a Hyundai didn't move over and smashed into the back of the DOT HELP truck.

"A camera on the back of our HELP truck catches the moment a distracted driver fails to #MoveOver and rear-ends it," New York State Department of Transportation wrote on Facebook. "Be alert when driving, eliminate distractions and Move Over and slow down when you see our flashing lights."

New York’s "Move Over" law requires drivers to use due care, slow down and safely move over when approaching law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, construction and maintenance vehicles stopped along the roadway. It's unclear if this driver was ticketed.
