A Taste Of Albany: Aunt Jean’s Legendary Steamed Hams Recipe
My First Steamed Ham
When I was 9 or 10 years old, my parents took me to see my Aunt Jean and Uncle Larry in Albany. They lived in a small house on Woodlawn Avenue. I remember it smelled like pipe tobacco and cats. Larry smoked a pipe and Jean had many cats. I remember the trip well because it was the first time I ever had one of Albany's famed Steamed Hams. If you are from Albany or the surrounding area, you've undoubtably had this true regional staple. According to my Uncle Larry, Steamed Hams have been served for generations at family gatherings, local diners and are often the star of area festivals and community events
