It was a long day for the police, the staff at a local Shell station, and one Ulster county man.

According to the New York State Police, Troopers were called to the Shell gas station in Brewster in response to a man allegedly attempting to steal lottery tickets. John Tarr of the Town of Marlborough was arrested, charged with petit larceny, and released.

Only hours later, Troopers were again dispatched to the same gas station after Tarr returned to retrieve a pack of cigarettes from the garbage. He was placed in custody and allegedly attempting to conceal the pack of cigarettes. A police search indicated that Tarr had also hidden prescription medication he had unlawfully possessed.

Tarr has been charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E felony, Petit Larceny, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, misdemeanors.
