Hudson Valley Police Investigate Shooting of Pet Cat

A $1,000 reward has been offered to help find the person or persons responsible for shooting a small domestic cat.

As a pet lover and the Hudson Valley "cat dad," it's so hard not to take a story like this personally. According to a press release from the Officers of the Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division, a 7-year-old domestic black cat named "Simon" was wounded by gunfire in the town of Carmel.

Thankfully, the cat is in stable condition after a trip to the Brewster Veterinary Hospital. It's believed that he was hit with either a high powered pellet gun or a very low caliber bullet. The incident may have happened between July 2-4.

Only metal fragments were found and the shot caused permanent damage to the cat's femur and pelvis.

According to NY State Law, the act is a felony. The New York State Humane Association, headquartered in Kingston, is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the assault on the animal.
