Lottery fans, did you notice? The cost of a Mega Millions lottery ticket increased from $1 to $2 on October 31, 2017. Yep, it costs you the same amount to play the Mega Millions as it does the Power Ball.

What are some of the changes that this brings?

  • Starting jackpots went from $15 million to $40 million
  • The Mega Ball numbers increased from 1 to 15, to 25.
  • the chances of winning a smaller amount also increased. More payouts are to be expected in what is called the third tier ticket winners. This tier is when you when you get 4 out of 5 of the numbers and the Mega Ball on your ticket. Previously, the winning amount for this numbers combination was $5000, now that has increased to $10000.

How often do you play the lottery? Do you like to pick numbers? Do you prefer to have the machine pick the numbers, ala Quick Pick? Do you prefer to stick to only the instant 'scratch off' type games?
