New Year Brings Closure To New Paltz Comfort Food Spot
Coming off the heels of a tough year for business and restaurant closures, 2025 started off with the sad news about a favorite Ulster County spot.
The final few weeks of 2024 didn't provide any relief from what has felt like constant closures of both locally owned businesses and restaurants and major companies and chains.

Popular New Paltz Comfort Food Spot Shutters
On the second day of 2025, New Paltz community members and fans of the very popular Main Street spot 'Melted' awoke to sad news.
Friends, as you may know by now we made the difficult decision to close Melted.
Going on to cite that 2024 was a year of 'challenges, losses of people close to them, diminishes health of once they care about, and personal setbacks,' the spot in New Paltz for great comfort food and delicious melted sandwiches has closed their doors.
Back in the fall of 2023, after a few different businesses ventures at 255 Main Street, Melted opened their doors promising 'an all new restaurant offering grilled cheese style sandwiches, soups, salads, sides and more opening soon!'
Sadly, just over a year later, Melted has shuttered, thanking the New Paltz community and sharing how great they've been 'always showing love and support and honest feedback.'
We hope that 2025 is a time of healing, reflection, prosperity and love for all of you and of course for us too! Remember a bad day can always be fixed by a warm grilled cheese and nice bowl of tomato soup!
Before Melted in New Paltz...
Before 255 Main Street in New Paltz was home to Melted, it was Smash Shack, a casual burger place that wasn't a drive through, but wasn't a formal sit down restaurant. For a bit, Mr. Beast was even operating out of the Smash Shack location as a ghost kitchen.
Prior to the Smash Shack/Mr. Beast days, Taco Shack, a long standing favorite of the New Paltz community was serving up burritos, quesadillas and of course, tacos at this location for many, many years.
