Massive Fire in Brewster, New York

According to the Brewster Fire Department Facebook page, first responders from the department were called to respond to a car fire on Friday evening November 1st. The fire reportedly started in a vehicle on Route 22 near Heidi's Inn. As firefighters arrived on the scene the single-car fire had quickly begun to spread to the hillside next to where the car was stopped. As you can see in the pictures (gallery below), the fire went from small to massive quickly and required three departments to respond to extinguish it.

Thankfully all three departments were able to get the fire under control as quickly as possible.

Extremely Dry Conditions Across New York

The car/hillside fire was the second call in a matter of hours for BFD as early that same day they were called to extinguish a brush fire that started after a tree branch fell and took out down a power line on Milltown Road in the area of Mountain Brook. BFD took time after each fire to remind everyone that due to the lack of rain in the area and the extremely dry conditions everyone needs to be "very careful when outdoors with these extreme conditions."

Temporary Burn Ban in Putnam County, NY

Back on October 30th, Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne implemented a temporary burn ban across the county following the recent Kent, NY brush fire that burned 33 acres over six days. This ban prohibits all forms of open burning—including campfires, brush burning, and debris fires. It does NOT include contained gas or coal cooking fires.
