By now you're probably aware of the fact that we LOVE nothing more than introducing you to new music, and especially when those introductions happen live, at Newburgh Brewing Company, for free, in the form of WRRV Sessions!

When we introduce new music on the radio on WRRV, sometimes we get lucky and those artists make time in their schedules to come play in the Hudson Valley. This was the case for Thursday June 12th, when we welcomed Slow Joy to the taproom for an excellent night of music...and Val and Jonah had a full blown conversation about Jonah's Las Vegas vintage shorts find...

Who Is Slow Joy?

With his debut album less than a month old, Dallas Texas native singer-songwriter Estaban Flores is the man, the vocalist and the success behind Slow Joy. A solo artist who travels with a backing band he refers to as 'his homies,' Slow Joy's first ever full record titled A Joy So Slow At Times I Don't Think It's Coming was released on May 16th.

In speaking with Estaban (Slow Joy) ahead of the show, we learned about the very personal songwriting process, the intentionality of the song placement on the record, and how fun it has been performing his songs on stage.

Slow Joy Brings Plugged-In Set To Newburgh Taproom

One of the other things we at WRRV love about our Sessions performances, is the fact that the artists get to decide how they want to craft their sets. Sometimes we get acoustic, maybe a special visit from a lead singer with their guitar (looking at you Justin), and then other bands bring the whole gang and fully plug in.

Thursday night with Slow Joy was a special one, as Estaban brought along what he referred to as 'his homies' (a hometown nickname for a group of friends) aka his backing band who helped make the performance one to remember.

Another perk of WRRV Sessions, the M&G! Slow Joy was so kind to spend time with attendees, sign merch, pose for pictures, and enjoy his first (of hopefully more to come) visit to the Hudson Valley. The WRRV crew snagged a photo-op before the night was over.
