Drivers probably won't have to reach for their wallets when crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge before long. 80% of the motorists going across the Tappan Zee bridge are already using E-Z Pass, the most E-Z Pass use anywhere on the Thruway. This has been a convenient option for more than 138,000 people that cross the bridge each day.

When April rolls around, it is the goal of the Thruway Authority to have a cashless tolling system should be in place for those without the electronic payment system attached to their windshield. Cameras will be used to photograph license plates and those drivers will be sent bills in the mail. Will out-of-towners and rental car users be exempt from paying the tolls? The Thruway Authority says that the amount of people being able to escape from paying the toll, will be few.
