Expansion Of Services & Cost Saving Initiatives in Wappinger

The recent expansion of services/improvements which went into effect at the Town of Wappinger Recycling Center are expected to not only make life easier for residents, but save them some money as well. According to Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini:

These operational changes fundamentally reshaped how the Recycle Center operates. By investing in Town-owned equipment and partnering with vendors who now pay the Town for materials, our cost-savings plan is fully in effect—allowing us to expand services while keeping rates affordable for residents.

Wappingers Adds New Items to 'Recycling Fleet'

The Town Board in Wappinger authorized the purchase of a roll-off truck as well as new dumpsters last year (2025), which would in turn allow the Recycling Center to transition to 'in-house' operation. Due to the fact that the truck would be town-owned, Wappinger was able to eliminate the need for and reliance on a costly third-party vendor for services.

As of January 2026, the new roll-off truck has officially been placed into operation, with an estimated cost savings of thousands of dollars over time.

Another cost-saving/income-generating initiative includes a newly established vendor partnership that allows Wappinger to receive payment for scrap metal and electronic waste.

Finally, much like Poughkeepsie's recent partnership, Wappinger has also announced that they too will be working with Helpsy, which will provide drop-off locations for unwanted clothing, shoes and textiles at the Recycle Center (this is for permit holders) as well as free curbside pickup of items for town residents.

The town has updated all recycling program, waste-removal and donation information on their website, here.
