A popular business suddenly closed for good at the Poughkeepsie Galleria.

Rumors starting spreading on social media this week that the Wendy's located in the food court of the Poughkeepsie Galleria closed down. Lending truth to the rumors was the fact that the fast food eatery was closed Tuesday and Wednesday while the other food court businesses remained open.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Poughkeepsie Galleria confirmed to Hudson Valley Post Wendy's permanently closed on Monday.

"Retail is ever-changing and Pyramid continues to be at the forefront of new and exciting venues in retail environment and this market. Although Wendy's has left Poughkeepsie Galleria and some customers may be disappointed, this makes way for new and exciting tenants," Poughkeepsie Galleria Marketing Director Jessica Pecchia told Hudson Valley Post in an email. " We have Verizon’s new location and 110 Grill restaurant currently under construction, with additional new store announcements coming soon."

Pecchia said she's unable to announce the replacement for Wendy's at this time but adds a replacement should be named in the near future.

The abrupt closure is due to the fact that the franchise's lease expired at the Poughkeepsie Galleria, according to a Wendy's spokesperson.

The spokesperson went on to tell Hudson Valley Post that the Wendy's on Main Street in Poughkeepsie has been completely rebuilt and should reopen within the next week.
