These Local Water Attractions Now Offering Extended Heat Wave Hours

Summer is OFFICIALLY here and July has brought with it a wild heat wave! According to Reuters, the current forecast could prove to be 'historic' and 'one of the most intense in recent years.' Some areas of New York State, and more locally, the Hudson Valley, may just tie or break daily temperature records through July 4th.

These 'Cool Down' Options Staying Open Late This Week

First, before providing you with some options to cool down over the next few days in these extreme temps, it is important to remember a few things when it comes to spending time outdoors (even in the water)

• limit time outside and sun exposure
• stay hydrated, yes even while you're swimming or playing in a splash pad
• find shade
• protect your skin, and reapply sunscreen often

Now, a few Dutchess County hotspots have announced extended hours to beat this week's heat. Now through July 4th, the splash pad area at Bowdoin Park will be staying open late until 9pm. Additionally, the swimming lake and spray area at Wilcox Park in Milan will stay open until 8pm for some evening swims.

Keeping Cool & Hydrated

Given this is the first lengthy (and this hot) heat wave in some time, it is important that you are taking care of yourself, and those who may need you. Before we get into the heat (literally) of things, check in on seniors and neighbors who may need help, be sure you have what you need to stay cool and hydrated, and make yourself aware of local and community resources available to you.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino shared some tips to beat the heat, also reminding the community to drink plenty of water (even if you aren't thirsty), stay in air conditioned spaces, limit strenuous outdoor activities, and check in on family and neighbors.
